Great Plains Technical Support: Dexterity, Crystal, Report Writer, Econnect
Microsoft Dynamics GP ERP is targeted to midsize companies, and you, as IT technician or application programmer should expect certain level of ERP deployment complexity, where you have to appeal to Dynamics GP technical support. You can get case relevant support directly from Microsoft, however if this is project oriented support, you should get it from your Dynamics GP VAR, Consultant or Reseller. Great Plains functional support, including precise business processes oriented user training should also be requested from your Great Plains Partner . Typical GP support issues are:
1. Unlocking ghost user, this problem was resolved in GP version 8.0. Prior to version 8.0, ie in GP 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0 and 3.2 you had to either delete the user in Activity table, meaning run these scripts:
Delete Activity where userid='JOHN'
This script works for you if you are on Microsoft SQL Server platform, or if you are ctree or Btrieve/Pervasive SQL then you simply have to have all the users log off Great Plains and delete Activity.btr (Activity.dat in the case of Ctree) file
2. Dexterity customization version update. Dex modification, or your unique add-on needs to be verified and upgraded by professional Great Plains Dexterity programmer. Great Plains architecture (tables structure, dex procedures, windows names and fields) is subject to change in the new Great Plains version and Dexterity modification needs to comply to new environment
3. Crystal Reports. This portion of GP modification typically is version upgrade tolerant, and you can count on CR, assuming that Crystal reports were created for GP on Microsoft SQL Server
4. ReportWriter reports. They are residing in REPORTS.DIC file. Microsoft publishes reports compatibility list, which should be the direction for you on which report will upgrade and which won't
5. eConnect. This SDK tool in our opinion came to its maturity with Great Plains version 9.0. To remind you, current GP version as of December 2009 is Great Plains Dynamics GP 10.0
